Abstract
The basic characteristics of a novel ceramic transformer are studied in detail. Because the input section consists of laminated ceramic strips and each strip can be made very thin, the input driving voltage can be very low. The output section consists of four piezoelectric ceramic columns utilizing k 33. These columns are electrically connected in series, so that the induced voltages are added up, and therefore a very high output voltage can be obtained. Experimental results show that the transformation ratio is about 200, i.e. 40 to 50 times greater than of the existing ceramic transformer. It is confirmed that this ceramic transformer is useful for a high-voltage source
