Abstract :
In this paper we present a newly developed planar built-in antenna, referred to as the balance-fed planar inverted-F antenna (BPFA), for the IMT-2000, 3rd generation (3G) mobile communication system. The BPFA features balanced operation which leads to a significant reduction of induced currents on the telephone body, thus reducing the operator´s hand effect. In addition, the BPFA is expected to show a higher effective gain in a cellular communication environment because of its good polarization property suitable for a multipath environment.
