Abstract
The author argues that radio LANs (and radio WANs), taken together with other technical developments occurring at the same time, will lead to a significant change in the way in which information technology is used. This step will be as significant as the introduction of the personal computer, and will lead to similar changes in products and systems. This in turn will place different demands on the technology. Design decisions made on the assumption that things will continue much as before are almost certain to be wrong
