  • Abstract
    The use of MQW semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) for high-speed optical switching is reported. Experiments show that when a laser amplifier is operated at high saturation, it can be used as a high-speed switch gate in multi-giga-bit fibre optic systems. Eight-bit packet extraction from a 2.5 Gb/s PRBS optical data stream has been demonstrated with no observable BER penalty
