Abstract
The detection of spurious heat sources such as fires in mass transit underground tunnels presents considerable problems. The authors report the initial findings of the evaluation, of an optical fibre distributed temperature sensor (DTS) in an underground transit network. They describe trials undertaken for London Underground Ltd. using a commercially available DTS system in a disused tunnel in the London Underground network
