Abstract :
Modern businesses like Amazon, Facebook, Google, eBay and many others have gained immense popularity, as they have been able to provide pertinent information based on user interactions with content. The prime mover for their success is the active usage of collective intelligence. The need for collective intelligence has increased with the stepping in of web 2.0. Applying it to improve user interactions and personalization has become mandatory for modern information systems including Enterprise Systems. In this paper, we have discussed the different techniques for deriving and applying collective intelligence by means of algorithms and visualization tools. Rather than inventing new algorithms or tools, we have focused on combining existing algorithms with visualization techniques to derive intelligence. Backed up by case studies we have come up with a methodology for making web applications smart by using collective intelligence. We close this paper with a note on the current work that is in progress involving application of collective intelligence in cloud management, mashups, non-relational database and reputation management.
