Abstract :
The performance of low bit rate (10.8 Kb/s) 8-PSK and trellis coded modulation (TCM) 16-QAM modems operating over a Rician fading land mobile satellite channel is evaluated and compared. Considerable TCM coding gain is obtained with the aid of a pilot symbol sequence, which allows successful coherent detection under severe fading, and diversity in time by interleaving using several multiplexed TCM codecs. The proposed modem is well suited for fully digital implementation
