  • Abstract
Describes a real-time decision support system for the control of an automated industrial robotic assembly line. The robotic system assembles miniature electromechanical products with a completed product size of 3×4×7 mm3. Disturbances, which are unavoidably unscheduled events, sometimes disrupt the entire plan. The effects of disturbances to the production plan are investigated and discussed. Human limitations in real-time problem solving are reached primarily when information flow is excessive, resulting in panic. Decision support systems that pre-process the information for the users are essential for the real-time control of complex manufacturing systems. The design of the decision support system to be implemented, which will react to the disturbances on a real-time basis, is also described
