Abstract
Knowledge that is concerned with mechanical assembly sequences is identified, classified and represented using a Petri net framework. The proposed framework can be used to compute a range of information relevant to the assembly process by specifying the interpretation for the net. Such a framework allows an intelligent system to represent and reason about assembly plans
