Abstract :
By using models of the discrete control of a continuous variable system proposed by Chase-Serrano (1993), the effect of the limited processing time of a server on the oscillation of the buffer state has been investigated. It has made clear that chaotic phenomena and several periodic oscillations in the buffer state can be observed. It has been reported in Chase-Serrano that chaos will occur in switched arrival system. Moreover, it is shown that, for a sufficiently small value of the limited processing time, chaos can be suppressed. Moreover, it has made clear that the variation range of the buffer state becomes smaller as the limited processing time decreases. From these results, it can be concluded that taking the limited processing time of a server into consideration is very important to investigate the dynamical behavior of a manufacturing system.<>
