Abstract :
This paper presents the results of a continuing investigation into degradation of the crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) power cable insulation. The paper deals with the changing of water absorption of various types of XLPE power cable insulations: steam and nitrogen-dry cured crosslinked polyethylene; (XL) and steam and nitrogen-dry cured water tree retardant crosslinked polyethylene (WTR-XL). The results of the study into effect of water absorption on breakdown stress (AC BDS) and partial discharge for different XLPE power cable insulations are also given. During the aging tests, the cable conductor was poured with tap water and the cable ends were properly closed
