A comparison between predicted and measured vessel cross-sections for ground wave radars

An experimental radar station has been developed by NORDCO Ltd. as well as an `Advanced ground wave radar performance simulation´ software. The simulation software has been extensively verified using data collected from the radar station. The authors report on the initial results obtained from an analytical model developed by NORDCO for evaluating the cross section of a vessel modelled as a parallelepiped. Comparisons are made between the modelled cross section and the measured cross section. The cross sections presented were measured during trials undertaken by NORDCO in August of 1989
