Abstract
The Poincaré sphere is used to illustrate simple graphical techniques for calculating the target radar cross-section for any given transmitting and receiving antenna polarizations. It is also shown that the Poincaré sphere offers a geometrical means of calculating the phase, as well as the magnitude, of the voltage developed at the terminals of a co-polarized transmit-receive antenna. All the techniques are developed for the general case of an asymmetric scattering matrix.
