Abstract
A multisegmented model consisting of conventional and inverted parabolic segments, was proposed independently by Baker and Lambert (1988) and Dyson and Bennett (1988) to model the ionospheric electron density distribution. For convenience this model is termed the multi-parabolic (MP) model. The authors introduce the model and compare MP model electron density profiles corresponding with observed sample ionograms with the profiles obtained by using the program POLAN, and review some of the applications of the model
