    Fast packet switching is a technique for switching traffic for a wide variety of services ranging from short text message interchange to complex real-time multi-media conferences. The technique draws ideas from both packet and circuit switching, and thus brings together the areas of data communication and telecommunications. The author describes the evolution of the ISDN, options for broadband switching architectures and fast packet switching architectures
