Abstract :
A measurement program to determine the broadband characteristics of short range millimetric channels at 40 GHz and 60 GHz and the subsequent analysis has shown that: delay spreads of 50 ns exist, limiting transmission rates to less than 5 Mb/s without resort to equalisation, and that power decays more rapidly with increasing delay, than at lower operating frequencies. In an attempt to produce a statistical model describing the behaviour of the channel impulse response a number of random processes have been examined, and although the agreements with the measured results are not entirely satisfactory, it would seem that a non-stationary Poisson process could be adopted for the path occurrences, with the path amplitudes being modelled by Rician random variates. Obviously this model requires refinement in the light of further measurements
