Abstract

In this paper we discuss an architectural approach to the problem of Service oriented networking. Thanks to the results of ongoing test-bed implementations we argue that there is the need of a general language enabling the communications of service requests and requirements between applications and network elements. This paper shows a first level of formalization of such a language, called Network Resource Description Language (NRDL). The NRDL is based on RDF and aims at formalizing the general issues of network services abstraction and composition. The paper presents an overview of the NRDL and shows that it can be used as a services description language as well as a service negotiation protocol based on an offer/answer communication paradigm.
