Abstract
In VLSI design there are a large number of possible sources of technology and process dependence. Even within a single technology, there are significant process variations between different fabrication plants. It is, therefore, particularly difficult to produce VLSI designs which can easily be used with different processes, let alone different technologies. There are even problems associated with producing a design system which is process independent, with many fabrication companies producing design systems which can be used only with their process-and general design systems which use a `least common denominator´ of process capabilities. CSL (circuit specification language), is an object-oriented language which has been designed, in part, to overcome these difficulties
