Abstract :
This paper demonstrates application of a recent formulation for constructing the radiation patterns that maximize the diversity gain for a given propagation environment. The results compare the performance obtained with practical designs to those obtained with the optimal antennas, and illustrate how to use the framework to investigate the number of spatial degrees of freedom available in the environment. They also illustrate how a sparse array can be designed whose performance approaches that of the optimal array.
