Abstract :
Investigates the possibility of building an integrated, knowledge based simulation model of a manufacturing system. The structure of the system is modelled in the IDEF0 format. However this structure is developed within a software environment supported by the STEM discrete event simulation package. This latter package runs in the ENVOS LISP/LOOPS AI workstation environment, and whilst it is primarily an object-oriented package it has an integral knowledge base facility allowing embedded expert systems. The dynamic behaviour of the functional elements of the IDEF0 structure is defined using STEM facilities
