Abstract
The authors describe their experience gathered over a number of years into prototyping an AI-based knowledge-based environment for modelling and simulation (KEMS). A crucial aspect of the component-based representation behind KEMS is that of knowledge acquisition. A knowledge acquisition module (KAM) has been developed which uses a seminatural language frame-representation language (FKRL) for encoding dynamic models
