Abstract
ELLA is the ideal front-end for the design of large systems on silicon. One of its major advantages is a comprehensive purpose-built design management system. Use of LOCAM in conjunction with ELLA further enhances the design system by providing synthesis from the architectural level. ELLA provides the following features: complete and high-level abstraction of behaviour, structure, signals, time transformations and trade-offs during design; an underlying hardware model-every ELLA description has a mapping to hardware; top-down, bottom-up and meet-in-the-middle design methodologies; hierarchical partitioning in design and simulation; and synthesis from architectural descriptions
