Abstract :
Railway managers face a bewildering choice of passenger information systems and equipment. Technology is continuing to advance, the microprocessor being the common factor in most cases. Not only is computer power creating new capabilities, it is also enhancing the performance of existing systems. These enhancements range from recorded announcements to electronic control upgrading the performance of classic flap displays. The author describes such Innovations which include continuing developments of display media, the introduction of interactive self-help systems and further integration with signalling and ticketing systems
