Abstract
Summary form only given. One of the key problems at the tactical decision making level in organisations is concerned with allocating budgets. The impact is usually measured across multiple non-commensurate criteria. The author locates this problem within the overall decision making hierarchy and examines the kinds of decision aids which may be of value in tackling this problem. He examines two key budget allocation decision areas; allocation of marketing and promotional budgets and allocation of information technology budgets. For the promotional spend allocation problem, he describes the TAPS System Targetted Allocation of Promotional Spend which has been successfully used for helping a number of major UK organisations. For the information technology budget allocation problem, he describes the TADS System (Targetted Allocation of Development Spend) which enables a large organisation to size and to allocate its IT budget
