Abstract
A general view of a communication system architecture for an SR-MRN (short range mobile radio network) is presented. This system is developed for road traffic informatics (RTI) applications with special real-time requirements. The SR-MRN is divided into two components: the vehicle-vehicle-network (VVN) and the vehicle-roadside-network (VRN). These networks are developed with the aim of improving traffic safety, economy, and driver convenience by the exchange of information between vehicles and between vehicles and roadside beacons. The communication functionalities and the communication architecture are discussed, and a detailed layer description is given
