Abstract
Commonly used techniques for contrast enhancement fall into two categories: (1) indirect methods and (2) direct methods. In this paper, we propose a novel, fuzzy, adaptive, direct contrast enhancement method based on the fuzzy entropy principle and fuzzy set theory. The proposed approach has much better adaptability and can determine the enhancement parameters automatically according to the nature of the image. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is very effective in contrast enhancement as well as in preventing over-enhancement
