Abstract :
For coverage of large areas or long distances where repeaters are necessary, the single frequency network (SFN) approach allows a very simple and promising concept. Therefore, based on a chip implementation of the SFN physical layer, this paper shows the verification of single frequency network transmission respectively of the behaviour of the SFN physical layer for a complete system with laboratory measurements. After a description of the measurement set-up some results for the key issues are presented. These concern the synchronisation which is based on correlation, the transmission bursts for MCM and the resulting spectra, word error rates and Viterbi metrics as well as the effects of time and carrier frequency offsets on the transmission. SFN typical worst case scenarios are considered. This is the final verification before this technology is leaving the laboratory
