Abstract
Thermosetting and thermoplastic organic insulating polymers are both subject to either tracking or erosion processes when a surface discharge occurs on them. Pre-discharge and post-discharge characteristics are described for both tracking and erosion processes. Three test methods for assessing the performance of organic materials under polluted conditions are presented. They are: a comparative tracking index test; an inclined-plane test; and a dust-fog test
