Abstract :
In this study, the authors propose and experimentally demonstrate a transformation of two EPR photon pairs distributed among three parties into a three-photon W state using local operations and classical communications (LOCC) with unit fidelity. When Alice- Charlie (modes 1 and 2) and Charlie-Bob (modes 3 and 4) each share one EPR pair, a local operation on the two photons of Charlie provides the required transformation. The local operation is performed using a polarization dependent beamsplitter (PDBS) which has different transmission/reflection characteristics for horizontal and vertical polarized photons.
