Abstract :
This presentation shows that for terahertz and probe pulses with finite diameters, an additional phase term appears that has to be added to and may thus significantly enhance the sensitivity of electro-optic (EO) sampling. To summarise, the signal measured in EO sampling of terahertz pulses also depends on some properties of the setup (diameter of the probe pulse, distance between EO crystal and detector).Knowing this, the performance of coherent terahertz detection may be significantly increased, easily by several tens of percent, if a proper geometry is used.
