Abstract :
This paper discusses the role of roadside beacon-to-vehicle communication systems to achieve information transfer/transactions using distributed beacons. It concentrates on beacon-based infrastructures only, examining some conclusions from work undertaken in the DRG & RP fields, and assesses the requirements for the in-vehicle-equipment and roadside-to-vehicle communications performance. It also examines the communications architecture and protocols to achieve these requirements, potential pitfalls for the standardisation process, and possible methods of avoiding them
