Abstract :
Summary form only given. Broadband networks are evolving to support applications beyond Internet access sharing to encompass the distribution and use of content in the home. Consumers, having learned the benefits of mobility with their cell phones, are demanding "no new wires" and mobility in their home networks. And, as consumers leave their homes and travel, their communications requirements include using public places to gain access to the WLAN broadband network. In parallel, mobile wireless data applications are growing. WLAN and WWAN are complementary, with both being a key element of next generation networks. This talk will provide a vision for the broadband network of the future and its relationship to WLAN networks, 3G networks, the intelligent edge network, and the backbone network. Considerations on advances in speed, mobility, QOS, security, and distribution of content required to support this next generation network will be addressed.
