Abstract :
The author presents a survey of the installed electrostatic precipitators operated by National Power. The largest are the precipitators at Drax with a specific collection area (SCA) of 70 s/m. A £50M programme upgrading precipitators is in progress mostly spent at Ironbridge, Didcot, West Thurrock and Tilbury where plate area has been increased and sulphur trioxide flue gas conditioning has been installed. Wide plate spacing has been fitted to the extended precipitator at Didcot and is proposed for the next additional precipitator at Tilbury. Other additional features are upgrades to the automatic voltage controllers which include the option of intermittent energization
