Abstract
Single Electron Tunneling (SET) technology appears to be a promising alternative for CMOS as it exhibits excellent power consumption and scalability features. Furthermore, it allows to perform computation in unconventional, but efficient ways which is exploited by the Electron Counting (EC) paradigm. In this paper we investigate SET division schemes that operate under the EC paradigm. We propose two schemes of which the fastest has a linear time complexity. The implementation of the latter is discussed in detail and simulation results are presented. The worst case delay is calculated as 39.2 ns and the worst case energy consumption is calculated as 1.23 eV. The area cost of the scheme is 146 elements.
