NMCS 2-the complete control & communication system

NMC 2, the UK Department of Transport´s National Motorway Communication System-Mark Two is nowadays attracting a considerable amount of overseas interest. As authorities around the world recognise the need for sophisticated control and communications systems on their freeways, the availability of a system `off-the-shelf´, with expansion capability designed in, is proving very attractive. The paper shows how that expansion capability has been utilised in the provision of a system for the M30 motorway around Madrid. It also outlines how additional applications could be handled, with a minimum of alteration to the standard system
