Abstract
Examines the route to the development of the all digital TV studio. The earliest digital video equipment were experimental and prototype ADCs. This was followed by a video tape time-base corrector. 1976 saw the introduction of frame store synchronizers based on RAM, and digital video effects in the form of position manipulation and reduced picture size. As a result of current studies into Improved (IDTV), High (HDTV) and Enhanced (EDTV) systems, intermediate standards may be needed due to the frequency brickwall inherent with the current 601 specification
