Abstract :
The commonest LAN cabling options are optical fibres, unshielded twisted pain, coaxial cables, and wireless using infra-red or radio carriers. Surge `barriers´ or `protectors´ generally use `surge divert´ technology. In order to protect coaxial cable systems, both the shield voltage with respect to local earth and the voltage appearing from inner to shield must be held at a safe level during a surge. Complete surge protection enabling cabled LAN systems to be fully and reliably exploited, is now available and affordable
