  • Abstract
    The work on the discontinuity was carried out in the time domain. The source was a sinusoidal function of time. The field distribution of the microstrip source was obtained by a preliminary calculation with an arbitrary spatial distribution of the source field. The field was recorded at a maximum at some distance down a uniform line. This was then used as the spatial distribution of the source. The discontinuities were analysed in terms of the lumped capacitances and inductances associated with the evanescent fields near the discontinuity. These were determined by integrating the electric and magnetic field energy respectively. The energies were calculated on the source side of the discontinuity when the fields were maximum. The energies were then recalculated with the discontinuity replaced by a continuous line. The process was then repeated from the other side of the discontinuity
