Abstract :
Coactive art forms bring together aspects of control theory and issues in human perception and cognitive modeling. Coactive systems depend on an interaction with the viewer to create their aesthetic value. The aesthetics in these art forms, therefore, is not embodied solely in some physical object but also in how the observer experiences the object. Coactive systems are interactive art forms which often have a level of complexity that is normally associated with intelligent autonomous systems. It is shown how aesthetically driven control problems differ from other classes of control problems, and how existing control techniques can be applied to them
