Abstract :
Considers how the fault diagnosis problem is addressed in two product ranges designed by AEA Technology, one a hard-wired automatic shutdown system (PCL) and the other a computer-based protection system (ISAT). These products though primarily produced to provide high integrity systems for the nuclear industry are equally applicable to any other safety-critical process. Failsafe design together with automatic self-testing ensure that any failure in the systems results in the associated plant being taken to a preferred safe state
