Abstract
The paper describes a software engineering course developed at Bradford since 1980. Changes in the educational environment and relevant technologies since that date are discussed. The impact that they have had so far, and may well have in the future, is considered. The problems of coping with these changes, in a time of diminishing resources, is seen as being partly soluble by more central provision of tools and teaching materials. It is particularly important that an active debate, including industrial input, is encouraged with respect to the SE component of Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree programmes.<>
