Abstract
The IEE/NCC Software Engineering Certificate Course was developed for the purpose of redressing the concern expressed over the shortage of high quality engineers in the new technologies of electronics, communications and control. It meets the essential requirements for updating the professional engineer and, although primarily designed for postgraduate updating, nongraduates with sufficient experience may be admitted. The course structure enables the course provider to cater for local business and industrial needs by offering schemes of study which can be undertaken by various routes. The course can also be adapted for use with distance learning techniques or become part of a relevant existing course which may lead on to other academic or professional qualifications.<>
