Abstract
With the advent of RISC microprocessors and their large register files, new techniques have had to be found in order to achieve high kernel performance in particular during the context switch. Many people often ask in the case of the Am29000 how 192 internal registers can ever be any good in applications requiring a real time operating system. By innovative design of the register file, high performance bus architecture, and a well defined programmers model, it will be shown how the Am29000 achieves equally high performance in the task as in the context switch
