Abstract :
The issue of takeoff and landing in tail wind is analyzed in a systematic way. The design specification is observed that the aircraft is given the ability to fly in the stronger tail wind up to 40 nautical miles per hour. Then the tail wind speed value is observed in the aircraft operation manual that the limitation is 10 nm/h for the most of the conventional aircrafts. The runway in international airports is 3600 meters or even longer permitting the tailwind operation. And then the current mode of air traffic control is observed to the safety issues basing on the separation in time and space. Further the wind power is investigated in an example airport that the limitation is proper for the most days in a year. Finally the conclusion is reached that the takeoff and landing in tail wind is practicable in a economic way to saving time and cost obviously, then the runway efficiency can be improved by divide some aircraft to tailwind direction for takeoff and landing. The improvement does not jeopardize the safety regulations.
