Abstract :
This paper describes a power supply for charging a 6.66 /spl mu/F capacitor rated at 30 kV (3 kJ) in 40 ms. The primary supply is a DC source with approximately 650 V. The power supply uses an H-bridge rated at 1200 V and 2400 A, operating at 10 kHz. A custom build step-up transformer and a rectifier bank are connected on the output of the H-bridge. A Motorola HC-12 micro-controller generates the gate drive signals for the IGBTs.
