Abstract :
Automatic incident detection is an important portion of advanced traffic management systems. Based on real-time analysis of traffic parameters, automatic traffic incident detection transfers information to traffic managers, aimed at reducing traffic jam and lessening traffic accident. Based on fuzzy logic, a new traffic incident detection algorithm for freeway was provided. With traffic simulation, the parameters of the algorithm were calibrated. Finally, the algorithm was validated by the data from traffic simulation. Results showed that performance of the algorithm was encouraging.
