Abstract
A Ku-band prototype up converter operating over the 14.0-14.5 GHz band was developed for a commercial satellite communications terminal demonstration. An output power of +33 dBm was achieved over 100 MHz IF bandwidth with IF power level of -10 dBm and LO level of +7 dBm at 12.8 GHz. There is a growing North American market for both fixed and mobile Ku-band transceiver systems. To address this market the RF assemblies, which represent the major cost component of the system, must address the following parameters; low cost, compact size, high MTBF over wide operating temperature ranges (the low cost requirement often precludes redundancy), and power added efficiency. To enhance yield and minimise alignment time the system was designed in modular form
