Abstract :
Solid state power amplifiers have become essential elements in a wide variety of microwave communications systems replacing existing travelling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) and in many new applications particularly at L-Band providing the only cost effective and maintenance free solution. This paper examines the successful development of a class A INMARSAT SSPA using power bipolar transistors the results from which have significant relevance to other L-Band applications being pursued by Pascall Microwave including PCN, TFTS and SKYPHONE
