    The paper concerns a research programme which attempts to draw together different sectors involved in safety-critical systems. The different sectors have different approaches, and the aim is to explore the differences so as to facilitate harmonisation. The sector involved include those of AI and software engineering. A further aim is to develop new software techniques by the comparison and contrasting of existing ones
