Abstract
With SOLO 1400 a mixed signal ASIC of moderate complexity can be tackled with a reasonably high degree of confidence in a successful outcome. The objective set for each design group was to replace the control electronics of a commercially available radio controlled model car. This choice was based on the assumption that the task would have a strong appeal that would not prove too difficult conceptually for undergraduates at an early stage in their course while at the same time requiring both digital and analogue subsystems
